Winter Spice Coffee Syrup

Warm and cozy winter spice coffee syrup with brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, and a touch of orange peel. Perfect for adding holiday flavor to your morning brew.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar light or dark
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 thin strip orange peel about 2 - 3 inches long
  • whole star anise pod optional but highly recommended
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. In a small saucepan, combine water, brown sugar, and all the spices.
  2. Add the strip of orange peel.
  3. Bring to a low simmer and cook 5 - 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Let steep for 10 minutes, then strain into a clean glass jar or bottle.

Notes

Serving:
Stir in 1 - 2 tablespoons into coffee or lattes for a warm, lightly spiced flavor.
Storage:
Refrigerate up to 3 weeks.  Shake before each use.
