- In a small saucepan, whisk together water, sugar, and cocoa powder until smooth.
- Bring to a gentle simmer until sugar dissolves, about 3 - 4 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in peppermint and vanilla extracts.
- Let cool completely, then pour into a glass bottle or jar.
Notes
Serving:
Add 1 - 2 tablespoons to coffees or lattes.
Storage:
Store sealed in the refrigerator up to 3 weeks. Shake gently before using.
Farmhouse Tip:
If you grow peppermint, try steeping a small handful of fresh leaves in the syrup while it simmers for 5 - 10 minutes. Strain them out before adding vanilla. It gives the syrup a soft, natural mint flavor and it makes the whole kitchen smell like Christmas!
